Transcription: The English word canon comes from a Greek word, which can be translated as a rod, straightedge, or ruler. This Greek term is probably derived from an even older word from the Hebrew language, which was used to describe a reed or a rod that could be used to measure things, like we would use a straightedge ruler today. As the use of the word developed over time, it came to mean simply a rule or standard. Protestants believe that 66 books measure up, while the Roman Catholic Church adds another 15 books called the Apocrypha as canon.
